Golfer’s Lifestyle Magazine is proud to recognize one of its own, David Kuhn of the Kuhn Golf Academy, for earning one of the game’s most prestigious honors. Recently, Golf Digest named Kuhn among the best golf instructors in Pennsylvania, a distinction voted on by his peers. Only 21 instructors across the state received this recognition, placing Kuhn in elite company alongside Western Pennsylvania standouts James Brod (Oakmont CC), Eric Johnson (The Turn, Cranberry Township), and Kevin Shields (The Club at Nevillewood).
For Kuhn, the award is a meaningful milestone in a career built on elevating players of all ages and abilities. A six-time WPIAL champion coach for Peters Township boys’ golf, Kuhn was also named National High School Coach of the Year for the 2023–24 season by the NFHS. That honor, cements his reputation as one of the premier coaches in the country.
While his junior program has produced collegiate talent and future professionals, Kuhn is quick to point out where his greatest pride lies. “Obviously, we’re extremely proud of the premier young athletes that we help progress to the next level and beyond. But, at the Kuhn Golf Academy, our staff takes great pride in helping players of any level improve their games,” explained Kuhn.
That focus on all levels of players, has become the hallmark of Kuhn’s instruction and that of his staff. Through a thoughtful blend of fundamentals, technology, and personalized coaching, he has transformed golfers who once felt stuck into confident players with complete control of their games.
Every two years, Golf Digest surveys thousands of top instructors across the nation to highlight the best teachers in each state. Instead of a traditional ranking system, the publication names a No. 1 in each state followed by an alphabetical listing of the other honorees. For Pennsylvania, Kuhn’s inclusion confirms what so many in the region already know: he is among the finest teachers of the game.
