Pheasant Ridge Golf Club: A Legacy Renewed

This fall, we turn our cover spotlight to a course with deep roots in Western Pennsylvania golf and a story that’s as inspiring as it is enduring: Pheasant Ridge Golf Club in Gibsonia.

Recently, I had the privilege of meeting with Christian Knapp to present him with Pheasant Ridge’s well-earned honors from the 2025 Western Pennsylvania Golf Choice Awards: Best Hole No. 6, Best Value, and Best Outing. While congratulating him on the accolades, I couldn’t help but share that he had come just shy of winning in several other categories as well and a testament to just how highly golfers across the region think of this course.

As we talked, I noticed something striking. Christian carried himself with a presence and passion that immediately reminded me of his late father, Eric Knapp, whose vision and dedication left an indelible mark on Pheasant Ridge. It was as if Eric’s spirit had found new life through his son’s leadership.

Eric purchased the property in 1998, transforming the old Sandy Ridge Golf Course, what he once described in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article as “nine pastures with nine holes in the ground,” into the challenging, scenic par-72 layout we know today. Sadly, Eric passed away in 2009 at just 49 years old after a hard-fought battle with throat cancer. At the time, Christian was only 15. In the years following, something was missing from the course, an intangible spark that Eric had always brought.

Today, that spark has returned. Christian has stepped in with enthusiasm, pride, and a clear love for both the game and the community of golfers who play here. His leadership is guiding Pheasant Ridge into a bright new chapter, blending tradition with fresh energy.

A Golfer’s Experience

Pheasant Ridge offers a unique layout filled with strategic challenges and breathtaking views. The course measures 6,578 yards from the back tees, featuring bent grass greens, well-framed holes, and risk-reward decisions that demand smart course management. Many of its golf holes have natural framing of trees and bunkers, and is just one example of the thoughtful design that keeps golfers coming back.

The conditioning is exceptional with lush fairways, smooth greens, and attention to detail that enhances every round. As one player put it: “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it and I’ll be back!” Add in a friendly and helpful clubhouse staff, and it’s easy to see why the course continues to earn high praise.

This year, Pheasant Ridge proudly hosted the 19th Annual Father & Son Golf Classic, a highlight event on the regional calendar. Both the golf and the hospitality (including an impressive post-round meal) left players raving about the experience.

More Than Just Golf

Pheasant Ridge has built a reputation not only as a premier place to play, but also as a community hub. The club offers:

  • A 160-seat covered pavilion perfect for outings, weddings, and celebrations
  • Golf instruction for players of all skill levels
  • A newly renovated bar with cocktails, beer, sandwiches, snacks, and even cigars
  • Flexible outing packages to accommodate groups and organizations

Membership is another way Pheasant Ridge stands out. With options ranging from an Individual Cart Fee Membership ($350) to an Unlimited Golf Membership ($2,500) and even a Junior Walking Membership ($595), there’s something for everyone. And the Pheasant Ridge Loyalty Club adds even more value that’s free to join, it gives players 5% cash back in points on every purchase, redeemable for golf, carts, events, and even memberships.

A Legacy with a Future

Pheasant Ridge is more than a golf course, it’s a living legacy. What began as Eric Knapp’s dream has now been reignited by his son Christian, who carries forward the same passion and excitement that made this club so special.

The awards, the loyalty of players, and the renewed energy on the property all point to one thing: the future at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club is as bright as its past is inspiring.
