Built in the rolling hills of Armstrong County, The Links at Spring Church has become the destination of choice in the Pittsburgh Golf Community. Located 30 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, 20 miles north of Greensburg, and 50 miles west of Johnstown, The Links at Spring Church has attracted thousands of golfers, from far and near, who enjoy the game and respect its traditions.
Designed to take advantage of the natural lay of the land, The Links features tree-lined, “links-style” golf holes with rolling hills and native fescues, and water features that come into play on six holes. Each hole is unique in its design, and the course requires players to use every club in the bag; however, the layout was designed with flexibility in mind and can be set up to challenge any skill level. Multiple tees create an enjoyable round of golf for any player. The course can be played as a par 72 from the red tees at 4920 yards or from the blue tees at 6850 yards. The blue tees can also be played as a par 70 by moving the tee markers on two of the par fives to the front tees and creating long par fours. And unlike many of the golf courses in Western Pennsylvania, well-struck shots at The Links are rewarded with level lies and views into the greens.
The favorite hole of most golfers who play The Links is the 505-yard, par-five 18th. A downhill tee shot (usually with the wind at the golfer’s back from the south) sets up a risk/reward shot over a pond into a wide but not very deep green. Once on the green, the pin is protected by a multi-tiered, undulating green.
Nestled in the scenic hills of Armstrong County, The Links at Spring Church is the perfect place for your golf outing. Combining a peaceful, intimate setting with a top-quality, links-style course, every aspect of your event will be memorable. Brennan’s Pub was at one time a brick-faced barn built in the late 1940s. Renovated when the golf course was built, the restaurant now comfortably seats 150 people.
The Links at Spring Church was designed by the prominent architect, Dominic Palombo, Jr., and it was built in 1999 by Frontier Construction of Donegal, Pa. The course officially opened on June 15, 2000. The construction and grow-in was fast tracked by Alan Frantik, current golf course superintendent and site manager. Involved in the construction of some of Pittsburgh’s premier golf courses (The Club at Nevillewood, Diamond Run, Treesdale), as well as nationally renowned courses (Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.; The Virginian Club in Bristol, Vir.; and Cantigny Golf Links in Wheaton, Ill.), Frantik used his extensive experience and available resources to ready the course. Today, Frantik and Pro Shop/Clubhouse Manager Stacy Pasternak manage the day-to-day operations for The Spring Church Golf Group, a group of local Pittsburgh investors.
